Trajan; 98-117 AD Via Traiana , c 112-115 AD
Second of the Good Emperors denarius. Trajan built a highway from Beneventum to Brundisium at his own expense.
Via Traiana reclining holding a wheel on her knee. This coin commemorates Trajan's generosity that shortened the path from Rome to Brindisi. Trajan’s triumphal arch at Beneventum has reliefs showing the civil and military deeds of emperor. It was erected in his honor and it still stands today.
