Vespasian. 69-79 AD.

Vespasian was Roman Emperor from AD 69 to AD 79 and founded the Flavian dynasty, which ruled the Empire for a quarter century. As Vespasian was about to besiege Jerusalem during the latter campaign Nero committed suicide leading to the civil war known as the “Year of the Four Emperors” with Vespasian declared Emperor by the Roman Senate December 21, 69 AD. After his successful campaign against Judaea he embarked on ambitious construction projects including the Flavian Amphitheater, better known as the “Colosseum”.
