Second of the Good Emperors, bronze sestertius
Trajan’s column was built with the spoils of the Dacian wars and was the centerpiece of Trajan’s Forum and is covered by a spiraling continuous frieze depicting victorious events related to the Dacian conquest built with the spoils of the Dacian Wars, and the last and greatest of the Imperial Fora. Covered by a continuous frieze of the events of the wars, the column was capped with a gilded heroic statue of the emperor. After the death of Trajan, the column became the repository of his ashes.
