Third of the Good Emperors. Sestertius
Hadrian lost his father at the age of ten and soon after embarked on a military career. He was appointed governor of Syria during Trajan’s Parthian war. He is best known as the builder as the great wall from the Tyne to the Solway. Obverse: IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS HADRIANVS AVG P M TRP COS III Bust laureate right with bare chest and fold of cloak on left shoulder. Reverse: PROVI - DENTIA DEORVM S - C Hadrian, laureate and togate, holding roll in left hand and raising right hand towards eagle, bearing scepter in claws.
