Bellerophon, a Corinthian prince, was considered the greatest hero and slayer of demons before the days of Heracles. His greatest feat with Pegasus was defeating the fire-breathing monster Chimera by throwing a block of molten lead down the beast’s throat. Obverse shows Pegasus standing right, lifting his left foreleg with Bellerophon below kneeling to the right, examining the raised hoof.Reverse Athena in a Corinthian helmet with an A behind.
