Probus 276-282
Tacitus had appointed Probus governor of the East. Florianus, Tacitus’ half-brother succeeded Tacitus in 276 after his death without Roman Senatorial consensus. The two rival emperors met in battle in Cilicia. Although Florianus outnumbered Probus the later was a more experienced general. After Probus secured victory Florianus was put to death by his own troops. Obverse IMP C M AVR PROBVS P AVG. Reverse a serpent is rising from an altar; while standing Salus is feeding it out of a patera, SALVS AVG XXIΔ.
