Carus; 282-283 AD
Aureus. This was the first Roman aureus to call the emperor "DEO ET DOMINO" (god and master).
Marcus Aurelius Carus was a Roman Emperor. During his short reign, Carus tried to follow the path of restoration of the empire's strength marked by Aurelian and Probus. His sons Carinus and Numerian formed, with Carus, a short lived dynasty, which granted further stability to a resurgent empire. He also had a daughter, Aurelia Paulina. Obverse laureate Carus draped and cuirassed. DEO ET DOMINO CARO AVG. Reverse Victory standing on a globe while holding a wreath and a palm VICTO - RIA AVG.
