Caracalla was the eldest son of Septimius Severus and born April 4, 188. His name 'Caracalla' originates from the Gallic he preferred to wear. When Septimius Severus father died in 211 in Britannia at Eboracum (York), Caracalla was proclaimed co-emperor with his brother Publius Septimius Antoninius Geta. Obverse Caracalla radiate and cuirassed ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM. Reverse Venus holding Victory and a scepter, leaning on a shield set on a helmet VENVS VICTRIX.
