Elagabalus, 218-222 AD.
The Armies in the East proclaimed Elagabalus Emperor on May 16, 218. After the overthrow and death of Macrinius the Senate’s affirmed Elagabalus’ title. His reign was notorious for religious fanaticism, bloodshed and outrageous excesses. He and his mother Julia Soaemias were executed by the praetorians and their bodies thrown into the Tiber. Obverse laureate draped Elagabalus IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG. Reverse Victory is flying holding a diadem in both hands with shields at her feet VICTORIA AVG.
