Orbiana, wife of Severus Alexander c. 226 AD
Gnaea Seia Herennia Sallustia Orba Barbia Orbiana married Alexander Severus in 225 receiving the title of Augusta. Julia Mamaea, Alexander Severus’ mother, was so envious that this title was transferred to Orbiana Mamaea had Orbiana thrown out of the palace in 227. Her father Seius Sallustius took her to the Praetorians in a display of defiance, an act that eventuated in his death and Orbiana’s exile to North Africa. Alexander Severus, too weak to oppose his mother’s wishes allowed this to happen. Obverse draped Orbiana wearing stephane SALL BARBIA ORBIANA AVG.
